STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore
Cali Legzdin delivered a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, and
Payton List struck out 10 batters to power James Madison softball to a 3-1 win over Georgia Southern in Sun Belt action on Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.
JMU (13-12, 1-1 Sun Belt) finished with three runs, eight hits, and an error, while Georgia Southern (12-13, 1-1 SBC) recorded one run on four hits with zero errors.
Legzdin finished 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBI while also tallying a walk to lead the Dukes at the plate. In the circle, List tossed a complete game while striking out 10 batters, matching a career high for the redshirt junior.
Kylee Gleason tallied her 12th multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot.
Kira Ortega went 2-for-3 with a pair of hits, while
Emma Jo Evans and
Emily LeGrand also picked up hits.
Kayla Christensen led Georgia Southern at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Valerie Combs went 1-for-2 with a walk, while Demere Gray provided the only other hit on the day for the Eagles.
How It Happened

- Georgia Southern struck first in the third inning, as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a JMU throwing error.
- The Dukes responded in the fourth inning as Kendra Lewis delivered an RBI double to right-center, bringing Gleason home from second to even the game.
- Legzdin provided the difference in the fifth inning, launching a two-run home run to deep left field that scored List and put JMU ahead 3–1.
- List struck out the side to end the game, evening the series at 1-1.
