HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 28, 2005 — Junior Arman Osooli (Commerce, Mich./Lawrence Tech) scored in overtime to give Hofstra to a 1-0 victory over 22nd-ranked(Soccer America) James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer at the JMU Soccer Complex Friday night.
Most of the game was a defensive struggle, but with the second half nearing a close, Hofstra became more aggressive offensively. Red-shirt junior goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) helped keep the Dukes in the game even though they were out-shot 19-4. Trapp registered six saves on the night and made two key saves near the end of the second half to keep the game scoreless.
Hofstra's late surge continued into the overtime period. Just 3:18 into overtime junior Constantinos Christoudias (Nicosia, Cyprus/The Grammar School) found himself on a breakaway. Christoudias's shot was blocked by a diving Trapp, but Osooli was there for the rebound and shot the ball in the open net from three yards out to secure the win for Hofstra.
The loss drops the Dukes to 9-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the CAA, Hofstra now stands at 11-4-2, and 6-2-1 in the conference.
