NEW HAVEN, Conn., Oct. 2, 2006 - The JMU women's golf team competed in the Yale Intercollegiate this weekend from September 30 through October 1. The Dukes finished seventh out of eleven teams at the par 70, 6,232 yard Yale Golf Course. JMU improved play in the second round and finished the event shooting 336-319-655.
Princeton finished first in the event shooting 309-293-602 and had the top two finishers. Annika Welander shot a 76-70-146 and her teammate Michelle Grilli shot 77-71-148 to finish first and second respectively.
The three seniors led the way for the Dukes with Diana Meza (Cali, Columbia/Goochland) shooting 84-78-162 which was the best score for JMU. Kiley Bishop (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) finished a stroke behind Meza carding an 85-78-163. Catelyn Eddy (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) finished her two rounds with an 85-82-166.
Red-shirt sophomore Ashley Mantha (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) carded an 86-81-167 and Freshman Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) shot an 83 in the first round before withdrawing from the second.
The next tournament for the Dukes will be October 7-8 at the ECAC Championship held in Williamsburg, Va.
