Gaithersburg, Md., October 23, 2007 -- The JMU men's golf team shot a final round 298 to move up from 10th to finish tied for eighth of 12 teams in the Georgetown Hoya Invitational.
Junior Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) led the way for the Dukes by setting a new season best with a final-round 70 on Tuesday. He finished the tournament tied for eighth (74-72-70?216) as he set a season record with a three-round total of 216. It was his second top-10 finish this season.
Junior Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) finished in 36th in a field of 67 participants, after shooting rounds of 76, 77 and 74 for a total of 227. The Dukes other three finishers were sophomore Jhonny Montano (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Cochabamba Cooperative School) who finished tied for 44th (76-80-77?233), freshman Brian Stele (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) who tied for 55th (85-78-77?240) and sophomore Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) who finished in 58th (79-85-78?242).
De Paul University (279-284-287?850) won the tournament with a 2-under-par. Rounding out the top-5 were Richmond, St. John's, Detroit Mercy, and William & Mary.
Greg Doherty of De Paul and Hunter Townsend of Richmond each shot 4-under-par to win the tournament. The top-5 is rounded out by Jordan Utley of Richmond, Cory Blenkush of De Paul, and Evan Beirne of St. John's.
The Dukes will be back in action a week from Monday in Kitty Hawk
