Career Performance by Anderson Leads Dukes at JT Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Led by Ethan Anderson's career performance, James Madison men's golf finished tied for 11th place at the JT Poston Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina.

JMU shot an 8-under 844 (286-276-282) over the three-day tournament, climbing as high as 10th place overall before wrapping up tied for 11th in the 17-team field.

Ethan Anderson secured his first top-10 finish as a Duke, shooting a career-best 8-under 205 that tied for the sixth-best 54-hole total in program history. He also shot a 6-under 65 in round two, the third-best low round total in program history.

Henry Holland also made noise during round two, sinking the first hole in one of the season for the Dukes and the first of his career, when he needed just one swing for hole 17.

The Dukes are off until Monday, Oct. 5 when they had up to the PB Dye Golf Club in Ijamsville, Md., for the Testudo Cup, hosted by Maryland.

Tournament Notes

Ethan Anderson had a career-low round in round two, shooting 6-under 65. It is also the third-best low round total in program history, just the 18th time a Duke has shot 65 or better in a single round.
With his final overall score of 205 (71-65-69), Anderson notched a career-best 54-hole performance. It's tied for the sixth-best 54-hole total in program history.
Anderson tied for 10th overall, his first top-10 finish as a Duke.
During the second round, Henry Holland sank his first hole in one as a Duke, finding the cup on the par-3, 210 yards 17th hole.
Rene Bergendi shot a 2-over 215, the fifth time in his career he's completed a 54-hole competition shooting 215 or lower. It's also the second time he's done it in back-to-back tournaments (5-under 213, Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate).
JMU shot an 8-under 276 as a team in round two, tying the seventh-best overall team round score in program history. It is the third time this season the Dukes have shot 276 or better as a team and 13th time overall in JMU history.
This marks the 14th time in JMU history the team's 54-hole total has come in under 855 overall.
