POWELLS POINT, N.C. - Michael Hake claimed the individual title and James Madison men's golf earned the team title after a playoff at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon, hosted at the Kilmarlic Golf Club and its par-71 and 6,582-yard layout.Â
Through 54 holes, Hake finished tied for first out of 90 competitors with a three-round score of -4 (209, 71, 66, 72). Locked at -4 with Georgetown's George McGlinn, the two golfers went head-to-head in a one-hole playoff. Here, Hake would finish with par while McGlinn clanked a pair of bogeys, earning the Duke his first-ever collegiate individual title.
Like with Hake and McGlinn, once the tournament's 54 holes were completed, JMU and Georgetown found themselves tied for first place at 281 strokes (-3), resulting in a one-hole playoff. JMU took the tournament crown thanks to a pair of costly bogeys by Georgetown in the playoff.
It wasn't just Hake who put together an excellent performance this week for JMU. Ethan Anderson's -3 (210, 70, 70, 70) tied the second-year golfer for third place, marking his best finish yet. It also marks the second consecutive tournament that he placed in the top-ten.Â
The ODU/OBX Intercollegiate marked the final tournament for JMU men's golf of the fall season. The next time the Dukes compete will be at the Compadres Collegiate hosted by UTRGV on Feb. 7-9th.
