BUIES CREEK, N.C., March 4, 2008 -- The JMU men's golf team shot a final-round 314 and finished 12th out of 14 teams with a two-round total of 619 at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic.
Junior Fielding Brewbaker finished tied for 28th after shooting 71-79--150. Freshman Matt Neely shot a 78 on Tuesday and finished tied for 46th place with a two-day total of 155.
Other Madison participants included junior Tim Driver who tied for 52nd (76-79--155) and a pair of freshman Ross Johnston and Matt Pesci. Johnston finished tied for 67th (80-80--160) while Pesci came in 76th (84-85--169).
Campbell University won the tournament after shooting rounds of 294-289--583. After Hartford came Elon (289-295--584), Gardner Webb (304-285--589), Radford (303-289--592) and Florida Golf Coast University (293-303--596) rounding out the top five.
The tournament was won by Josh Gallman of USC Upstate who shot a 3-under-par 141. He was followed by Kyle Morris of Seton Hall, Jimmy Lytle of Elon and Matt Moot of Campbell who all shot 142 to tie for second.
The Dukes will be back in action March 17-18 in the First Market Bank Classic in Williamsburg, Va.
