DUKES SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER FROM COLONIALS

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 9, 2008 ? The James Madison softball team dominated George Washington for a pair of non-conference wins Wednesday. The Dukes won game one 8-0 in six innings before picking up a second shutout in a 6-0 win in game two.
The Dukes improved to 19-19 this season with the wins and 9-2 all-time against GW. The Colonials dropped to 7-18 with the losses.
In game two, junior right-hander Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) gave up two hits in seven innings of work to pick up her fourth complete game and second shutout this season. Clohan faced just one batter over the minimum as she gave up a leadoff single in the first and a two-out single in the fourth. The Ashburn, Va., native struck out 10 to run her career total to 306.
JMU scored two runs in the third, one run each in the fourth and fifth and two in the sixth and banged out nine hits against GW pitching.
In the third, junior left fielder Brittney Dyson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by junior catcher Julia Dominguez (Sterling, Va./Park View). After a sacrifice bunt by freshman shortstop Melissa Hill (Santee, Calif./Westhills), Dyson scored on a fielder's choice by sophomore right fielder Shannon Moxey (Church Road, Va./Mills Godwin) and Dominguez scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore center fielder Courtney Simons (Richmond, Va./Deep Run).
JMU added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Dyson that plated sophomore pinch runner Kendra Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run). In the fifth, Moxey led off with her team-leading 10th double of the season. She advanced to third on a single by Simons and scored on the Dukes' third sacrifice fly of the day, this one by senior first baseman Jenn Chavez (Upland, Calif./Upland).
