CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 26, 2009 ? The James Madison men's golf team finished fourth out of 18 teams at the 2009 Cavalier Classic after lightning in the Charlottesville area forced the cancellation of Sunday's second round. The Dukes fired a 295 in Saturday's opening round to finish nine strokes back of tournament champion South Carolina.
Leading the way for Madison was senior Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem), tying for 14th after shooting a 72 on Saturday. Fellow senior Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) and freshman Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) followed Brewbaker after each fired 74s in the first round to tie for 28th.
Sophomore Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) tied for 39th after shooting a 75 on Saturday, followed by freshman Jack Bonifant (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) in a tie for 80th.
North Carolina Wilmington's Josh Brock fired a 67 to win the tournament's individual championship. He finished one stroke ahead North Carolina State's Adam Hogue, who finished in second with a 68. Virginia's Kyle Stough (69) was third, followed by a five-way tie for fourth place.
South Carolina's 286 was good enough for a six-stroke victory over second-place Virginia. Francis Marion (294) was third, followed by JMU (295) in fourth and Augusta State (296) and Appalachian State (296) in a tie for fifth.
