HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 10, 2010 - The nationally-ranked Georgetown women's soccer team remained unbeaten (7-0-0) with a 1-0 victory at James Madison (3-2-0) Friday night at the JMU Soccer Complex.
A first-half goal by junior Samantha Baker (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson) gave the Hoyas the victory. Baker's corner kick sailed into the far corner of the goal from the right side of the field with 9:07 left in the half.
Georgetown entered the game ranked 18th in the NSCAA coaches poll and 25th by Soccer America.
Hoyas' senior goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) needed to make only one save to post her fourth shutout of the season. Georgetown held a 12-8 advantage on shots. JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) finished with three saves.
"We ran into a very good Georgetown team tonight. They really took control of the game in the first half," head coach Dave Lombardo said. "We played and competed a lot harder in the second half. We didn't really create a lot of good offensive scoring chances, but I thought we had a couple of opportunities to tie it up and missed them. They deserved to win; they were the better of the two teams tonight."
