HARRISONBURG, Va. – After a scoreless first half, James Madison women's soccer found the back of the net three times in the second to take down App State, 3-1, in Sun Belt action on Thursday night.
The Dukes (5-5-1, 3-1-0 SBC) were paced by a brace from
Ginny Lackey, her first of the season.
Makenna Kirk added a score for her first points of the year.
Aleigha Arndt tallied a pair of assists, with
Bianca Raskin also logging her second assist of the year.
Sofia DeCerb made the start at goalkeeper, where she spent all 90 minutes of action.
App State (7-2-3, 2-1-1 SBC) were led by a goal from Libby Bermingham. Hanna Skogsfos started at goalie, playing all 90 minutes and making two saves.
How it Happened
- The Dukes first shot was taken in the eighth minute, an attempt from Lackey that traveled off target.
- JMU acquired a corner kick and took a shot in the 35th minute; however, came away empty.
- The Dukes opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half, with Kirk finding the net in the 48th minute to hand JMU a 1-0 lead.
- Lackey capitalized off a blocked cross in the 53rd minute, knocking one in off her left foot to double JMU's lead, 2-0.
- In the 64th minute, App State found the scoring column to move the tally to 2-1.
- JMU wasted no time in its response, as Lackey logged her second score of the night in the 65th minute to reestablish a two-goal lead.
- The Dukes' counterattack held strong, only allowing one more shot in the final minute to seal the victory.
