RALEIGH, N.C. - The James Madison men's golf team couldn't find a good rhythm and finished 16th the 2011 Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Oct. 3-4. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by NC State, was contested at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course (Par 71 - 7,358 yards) in Raleigh, N.C.
JMU had its highest score for the tournament in the final round, shooting a 22-over 306 to finish at 63-over 915 (305-304-306) for the 54 holes. No. 39 Memphis took the team title with a final-round 290 and finished at 9-over 861, two shots better than UNC Greensboro, who had the best final round at 287 and posted 11-over 863 for the event. Louisiana-Lafayette was third at 14-over 866, while No. 26 Campbell and East Carolina tied for fourth at 870 to round out the top five squads.
Senior Chris Wellde was the top Duke, shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round to improve to a tie for 30th at 9-over 222 (78-74-70). Junior Ryan Vince was next for Madison in a tie for 68th at 17-over 230 (76-78-76), while sophomore Tucker Koch tied for 73rd at 19-over 232 (73-77-82). Freshman Matt Crawford was three strokes back of Koch at 22-over 235 (82-75-78), tying for 81st, with senior Chad Mozingo placing 85th at 29-over 242 (78-80-84). UNC Greensboro's Robert Hoadley took home individual honors at 4-under 209 (69-68-72), two shots clear of Memphis' Jack Belote in second at 211 (69-70-72).
Madison will next be on the course Sat.-Sun., Oct. 15-16 at the Lincoln-Mercury Intercollegiate in Bedminster, N.J.
