HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 9, 2011 -- James Madison sophomore Haley Miller (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) had a goal and an assist as the Dukes shut out North Carolina Wilmington 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Sunday afternoon at the JMU Soccer Complex.

JMU improved its overall record to 7-5-2 and its CAA record to 4-2-0. UNCW dropped to 2-11-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference play.

Miller netted the game-winning goal in the 61st minute on a play that began with a corner kick by sophomore Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown). Wilson delivered a ball into the box that Miller was able to control and send into the goal from just a yard out. She beat UNCW junior goalkeeper Caitlin Hunter (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) with a shot just inside the left corner of the goal.

Dukes' freshman Katie Hyland (Islip, N.Y./Islip) registered JMU's second goal with a hard shot from the edge of the 18-yard box into the right corner of the goal. Miller's pass ahead to Hyland set up the score, which came with 13:41 left in the game.

JMU held a 19-7 advantage on shots but UNCW had several near misses in the opening half.

In the ninth minute, a shot by senior Erin Pardini (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) from outside the box on the left side of the field was punched over the crossbar by Dukes' redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kate Courter (Lincoln Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart).

A shot by senior Meagan Simeone (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) from 22 yards from the center of the field was just wide of goal on the right side in the 33rd minute,.

In the 39th minute a header by freshman Stephanie Hartman (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield) off a corner kick from junior Kim Currie (Lumberton, N.C./Lumberton) was just wide of the goal on the left side.

JMU had an early quality scoring chance when a 20-yard shot by junior Amalya Clayton (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) in the seventh minute sailed just over the crossbar.

The Dukes recorded their seventh shutout of the year with their second consecutive shutout. Courter, who had four saves on Sunday, has been in goal for all seven shutouts.

UNCW's Hunter also made four saves.

"UNC Wilmington put a good game plan together. They were trying to sit in (on defense) a little bit and take the counter-attack chances and get to halftime at zeros and they did that," JMU Head Coach David Lombardo said. "We had some pretty good chances (in the first half); we just didn't finish any. Caitlin Hunter is a good goalkeeper. You are going to have really work to beat her.

"We got some good momentum coming out in the second half and scored a kind of fortunate goal off the corner kick banging around a bit (and) Haley Miller getting through there."
