Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Maryland Terrapin Invitational

ROCKVILLE, Md. – The James Madison men's golf team finished fifth at the 2014 Maryland Terrapin Invitational, Oct. 13-14. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was played at Woodmont Country Club (Par 72 – 7,250 yards) in Rockville, Md.
Concluding the fog-suspended second round on Tuesday, the Dukes cut 12 shots off their opening round with a 3-over 291 and then followed it up with a 10-over 298 in the third and final round to finish fifth at 28-over 892. Host Maryland won the tournament at 4-over 868, five shots ahead of runner-up Loyola (Md.) at 9-over 893. From there, the next three teams were separated by just three shots, as Elon was third at 25-over 889, Boston College in fourth at 26-over 890 and James Madison in fifth.
Sophomore Poom Pattaropong (Minburi, Bangkok, Thailand/Heritage Academy (S.C.)) made a move up the leaderboard with his 3-under 69 in the second round and followed it up with a 2-over 74 in the last 18 to finish at 3-over 219, good for a tie for seventh. It was his top finish of the fall and tied his career-best placing in a tournament. Sophomore Connor Walters (Salem, Va./North Cross) also posted a top-20 finish, tying for 17th at 7-over 223 after an even-par 72 in the final round. Freshman Jack Floydd (West Sussex, England/Ardingly College) also had an even-par 72 in the tournament, his in the second round, and finished in a tie for 24th at 9-over 225. Senior Jon Weiss (Florence, S.C./Sumter (Newberry)) tied for 37th at 13-over 229, with sophomore Ryan Cole (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) right behind in a tie for 40th at 14-over 230. Playing as an individual, sophomore Tyler Williams (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head Prep) tied for 50th at 18-over 234.
Kyle Hart of George Mason and Jonathan Dilanni of Elon tied for medalist honors at 2-under 214, three shots better than Maryland's David Kocher and Loyola's Matt Oshrine.
Madison concludes the fall part of its 2014-15 schedule Sun.-Mon., Oct. 19-20 at the OBX/Old Dominion University Kilmarlic Collegiate Invitational at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
