About The Program
Our spirit program consists of three teams: all-girl, co-ed, and the Duke Dog team. All teams cheer at all home football, basketball, and volleyball games. A small select group of all-girl and co-ed will travel to away football games and the Sun Belt Conference Basketball Championships. A competition squad is selected to compete each year at UCA College Nationals in January. Cheerleaders are expected to schedule their classes around the practice times determined by the coaches. In addition to practice, the cheerleaders are required to attend weekly workouts and mandatory events determined by the JMU department of athletics.
Academic and All-Around Expectations
All cheerleaders will be required to maintain good academic and behavioral standing and have at least a 2.0 GPA. Cheerleaders must also maintain full time enrollment with the university (no less than 12 credit hours). All new student-athletes will have monitored weekly study hours as well as any returning athlete with less than a 3.0 GPA.
The JMU cheerleading program is seeking athletes who will be committed and dedicated to achieving success academically and athletically. We require all student -athletes to possess a positive attitude, self-motivation and determination, a genuine love for cheerleading and support JMU Athletics.
