Team Selections:
James Madison University Cheerleading is excited to facilitate in-person tryouts for the 2026-2027 season! In-person tryouts will take place April 17th & 19th  2026.
In Person:
- Friday, April 17th 2026
- 4:00 p.m.: Check in
- 5:00 p.m.- 8 p.m.: open gym in Godwin Hall Sinclair Gym B, Standing tuck check on hard surface Godwin Hall Sinclair Gym B (Mandatory)
- SUNDAY, April 19th 2026
- 8:00-9:00 a.m.: Check-in
- 9:00-4:00 p.m.: Full evaluation including : Tumbling, Stunting and Fight Song in Godwin Hall Sinclair Gym B (Mandatory)
Pre-Registration Process:Â

- Completed pre-registration form
- Electronic copy of completed physical from within the last 12 months; In the event a physical must be completed, please use this tryout physical form.
- Electronic copy of front and back of insurance card
What You Need:
- Attire: Black shorts, purple t-shirt, cheer shoes, white ribbon for women
- What to bring: Water bottle, snacks/lunch, personal tape and/or braces
- Tryout packet: Current headshot, two references for non-current members, copy of JMU Letter of Acceptance or JMU JACard, completed Tryout Agreement form

- Co-Ed (up to 20 members)
- All-Girl (up to 20 members)
Minimum Tumbling Requirements:Â
- Standing tuck
- Running tumbling to tuck
*All tumbling skills must be performed on turf, hardwood, and a non-spring floor.
All-Girl Cheerleaders will be evaluated on:
- Full Up, Back handspring, Heel Stretch
Co-Ed Cheerleaders will be evaluated on:
- Chair full-pff, Toss & Walk-In Extension,Â

Prospective members will be evaluated at tryouts on game day and elite stunting, standing and running, sideline motions, and the JMU Fight Song. Each cheerleader's skills will be assessed at each station by JMU representatives and coaches. They will be asked to show their best level of proficiency at each station and will be coached through new skills to assess coachability. Our coaching staff will look at crowd leading ability, physical fitness, game day appearance, and personal character. ALL potential members must show or submit an acceptance letter to the university prior to tryouts
