CHARLESTON, S.C. – James Madison men's tennis fell 7-0 to No. 56 Old Dominion on Wednesday afternoon in a neutral-court match at Charleston Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C.
The Dukes fell to 4-7 overall (1-1 CAA) while the Monarchs improved to 10-1 (3-0 C-USA).
ODU swept all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl defeated sophomores Miljan Ruzicand Sebastian Salinas 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while juniors Maxi Branthand Rob Stirling dropped an 8-5 decision to Carlos Lopez Villa and Javier Jover Maestre at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Alex Berdnikoffand Brett Moorheadfell 8-2 to Theophile Lanthiez and Zvonimir Podvinski at the No. 3 position.
Salinas lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to Lopez Villa, and Stirling lost in straight 6-1 sets at No. 2 singles to Moundir. Weindl defeated Branth 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles while Jover Maestre won 6-4, 6-1 over Ruzic at No. 4 singles.
At No. 5 singles, Moorhead fell behind Lanthiez 1-0 after a set-one loss (6-2), but battled back in set two. He was unable to overcome the Monarch, dropping the second set 7-5. Freshman Stephen Goldmanlost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to Podvinski.
JMU continues its spring break trip with a visit to Coastal Carolina on Saturday, March 14. Match play begins at noon in Conway, S.C.
