CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 19 James Madison field hockey dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 9 Louisville on Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site contest hosted by North Carolina.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak as JMU fell to 5-2 on the season, and Louisville improved to 6-2 overall.
Louisville scored its first goal at the 10:24 mark of play off a direct corner hit and took a 2-0 lead into halftime despite the Dukes holding the possession edge in the first half. They outshot the Cardinals 8-5 before the break.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Kraeutler notched a career-high nine saves in the contest, including eight in the second half. Louisville held a 17-5 advantage in second-half shots as well as a 7-4 edge in second-half corners to push its lead to 5-0.
The Dukes return home for a two-game home stand beginning Friday, Sept. 25, for a 7 p.m. contest with Temple.
QUOTING COACH MORGAN
"We started out with great energy and desire, but just could not sustain it through the whole game," Head Coach Christy Morgan said. "Louisville is ranked No. 9 for a reason, and we'll head back to the drawing board. We are a good team, and we will regroup, learn from this defeat and come back stronger than ever."
