BLACKSBURG, Va. - The James Madison track and field team's 4x400 meter relay team highlighted the second and final day of the 2016 Indoor Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday afternoon at Rector Fieldhouse.
The quartet of sophomore
Tyrah Burrow, junior
Ebony Owusu-Sampah, freshman
Meredith Willis and juniorÂ
Kennedy King finished third in the 10-team field, crossing the finish with a time of 3:51.69. The performance surpassed the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships qualifying mark, which is set at 3:52.54.
They are the third relay squad to qualify for the ECAC meet in the medley this season after
Erica Gray,
Erica Jackson,
Carol Strock and
Madeleine McCarty did it in the 4x800 at the 2016 Father Diamond Invitational and the team of team of Gray,
Gina Bischof, Jackson and
Tessa Mundell achieved a qualifying mark in the 2016 Kentucky Invitational's distance medley.
Also impressing on the day were sophomores Bischof and
Charlie Bell, who ran a 1:00.27 and 1:00.64, respectively, in the 400-meter dash for collegiate personal records.
Freshman
Jackie O'Shea rounded out the group, shaving five seconds off of her previous personal record in the indoor 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:45.52.
The Dukes move on to the George Mason Last Chance meet on Sunday, Feb. 28.
