Dukes Cap Weekend Sweep With 1-0 Win Over Seahawks

WILMINGTON, N.C. -Â James Madison softball defeated UNCW 1-0 in the final game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Saturday afternoon at Boseman Field. The Dukes improved to 25-2 and 3-0 in the CAA while the Seahawks fell to 19-12 and 0-3 in the league.
After a 20 minute rain delay that halted the Dukes' half of the fourth, junior outfielder Taylor Newton knocked a RBI double to center field that plated senior Jailyn Ford from first base. Newton recorded JMU's only hit of the day as Ford reached on a fielders choice.
The Dukes held the Seahawks hitless through the remaining four innings to secure the weekend sweep in Wilmington.
Sophomore pitcher Megan Good (15-1) earned the win in a shutout performance, allowing just one hit overall while striking out six.

JMU heads to Charlottesville, Va. for a midweek doubleheader against Virginia. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

WEEKEND IN WILMINGTON
The Dukes swept UNCW in a three-game series, including back-to-back wins on Friday (2-0; 2-1). The Dukes outscored the Seahawks 6-1 over 21.0 innings of play. Good tossed two shutouts while Ford allowed only one run on one hit. The duo held UNCW to a .060 batting average while striking out 20 batters and walking just three.
At the plate, senior catcher Erica Field led the Dukes with four hits, followed by sophomore third baseman Morgan Tolle with three. Newton tallied a series-high 3 RBIs on two hits.Â
