Dukes Earn 40th Win in Series Finale Over Delaware

HARRISONBURG, Va. - No. 6 James Madison defeated Delaware 11-2 in six innings in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park. The Dukes improved to 40-3 overall and 15-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the series sweep while the Blue Hens fell to 26-17 and 8-7.
Sophomore Megan Good (26-2) earned her third win of the weekend in six innings of work in the circle. Senior infielder Jailyn Ford led the Dukes with three hits, highlighted by a home run in the fourth inning.
JMU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Junior outfielder Taylor Newton sparked the Dukes with an RBI single to right field. With the bases loaded, junior infielder Niki Prince was hit by a pitch bringing in the second run. Sophomore designated player Jessica Mrozek kept the inning alive with an RBI single to right, scoring Ford and the team plated the final run of the frame off an error.
Delaware closed the gap with two runs off three hits in the top of the third making it a 4-2 game.
JMU tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning, which began with a lead-off homer from Ford. Mrozek pushed across Prince and Newton with a single to left center to close out the inning with an 8-2 advantage.
In the fifth, Newton drew a walk with the bases loaded for the only run of the inning. Senior catcher Erica Field capped the game with a two-run homer over the center field fence, forcing a run-rule decision after the Dukes went up nine.

With a conference record of 15-0, James Madison has clinched the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Tournament. As the top seed, the Dukes will host the CAA tournament May 10-13 at Veterans Memorial Park.Â

The Dukes kicked off the series with an 8-0, five-inning win and a 6-5 victory over the Blue Hens Saturday afternoon. James Madison outscored Delaware 25-7 with a .718 slugging percentage on the weekend.
JMU hit five home runs in three games while the Delaware was held to zero homers. Ford led the way with two, pushing her JMU all-time career record to 45.
Good picked up all three wins on the weekend moving her season record to 26-2. She allowed only 11 hits in 12 innings of work while striking out 11 and walking four.
