MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – James Madison men's tennis fell 5-2 to George Mason on Friday night at the Salisbury Country Club.
The Dukes (1-2) dropped two of three doubles matches to give the Patriots (1-2) a 1-0 lead before GMU won three of the first four singles contests to secure the victory. Four of the six singles matches needed a full three sets to be decided.
Freshman Tate Steinour went 2-0 on the day with a win in both singles and doubles. He teamed up with senior Brett Moorheadfor a 7-5 triumph over Daniel Gutierrez and Alexis Pinsonneault at No. 3 doubles before taking down Andrew Curtis in two sets (6-4, 7-5) at No. 6 singles.
Senior Sebastian Salinasheld off match point in singles when he battled Pally Ray through three sets (7-6(5), 3-6, 6-1) for the victory at the No. 2 position.
