No. 14 Dukes Open Series with Saturday Sweep of Towson

The Dukes plated a season-high eight runs in the second inning of the series opener to top the Tigers 15-3 in five innings. Junior pitcher Megan Good held Towson to a lone hit in Saturday's second game as the right-hander shut out the Tigers 7-0. The Dukes improved to 33-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The Tiger fell to 13-19 on the season with a 2-5 mark in league play.
The Dukes batted at a .397 team average over Saturday's slate to outscore the Tigers 22 to 3. JMU plated 13 two-out RBIs during Saturday's doubleheader while boasting a .500 average with two outs on the scoreboard.
Good led JMU at the plate going 6-for-8 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs. Junior infielder Morgan Tolle went 4-for-6 with three runs score to extend her hit streak to 18 consecutive games. Senior infielder Niki Prince (3-for-6) and freshman catcher Kierstin Roadcap (2-for-5) both drove in four runs over the doubleheader.
Earning the start in both contests, Good improved to 23-1 on the season after her one-hit outing in Saturday's finale. Over 7.0 innings of work, she allowed just one hit and three walks while striking out six.
Sophomore Jackie Tremain earned her first career victory after pitching two innings of relief in JMU's 15-3 victory over the Tigers. Tremain tossed a total of three innings of relief Saturday and allowed just one walk while striking out two. Freshman Odicci Alexander pitched two innings of relief during Saturday's action. The right-hander allowed three runs off six hits with one strikeout.
The Dukes led off Saturday with back-to-back singles from Tolle and freshman outfielder Cambry Arnold. Alexander singled to left to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead before Prince plated two runs with a single to left.
Roadcap doubled to center fielder to lead off the second inning before Good notched an RBI single to center. Alexander doubled to center to push the JMU lead to 5-0. Senior infielder Madyson Moran singled to left to plate two runs before Prince tripled to right to give JMU an 8-0 lead. After freshman infielder Madison Naujokas got on with a hit by pitch, Roadcap homered to left to extend the lead to 11-0.
Towson added three runs of two extra-base hits in the bottom of the second to cut JMU's lead to 11-3, but JMU answered in the top of the third with an RBI double from Good and a two-run home run from senior outfielder Taylor Newton.
After tripling to lead off the fourth, freshman catcher Kate Gordon scored the final run of the game on a ground out to second off the bat of sophomore pinch hitter Paige Mitchell.
The Dukes mirrored their game-one start to open Saturday's second contest. After a single from Tolle and a double from Arnold, Good helped herself with an RBI single to short. A double steal plated a second run of the inning as Arnold swiped home while redshirt sophomore Kassie Brammer stole second. Moran extend JMU's first-inning lead to 3-0 with an RBI bunt single.
Trading two scoreless innings, JMU added a run in the top of the fourth as Prince scored on a groundout to short from Roadcap. Prince extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth with a double to left center before a Towson passed ball push the JMU lead to 6-0.
After retiring six consecutive batters, Towson broke up Good's no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth with a bunt single, but Good answered with two strikeouts to help retire the side. The Dukes plated their final run in the top of the sixth as Tolle scored on an inning-ending double play.
DOMINATING THE SERIES
Sweeping Saturday's slate, JMU extended its win streak over the Tigers to 24 consecutive games. The Dukes last loss came during the 2011 when the Tigers swept the season series.
TOLLE EXTENDS HER STREAK
With hits in both of Saturday's contests, Tolle extended her hit streak to 18 consecutive games while she has reached base in 25 straight contest.
SECOND INNING MAGIC
For the second-time this season, JMU scored eight runs in a single inning after scoring eight in the second inning against Towson to open the series. The Dukes first plated eight during the second inning of their series opener against the College of Charleston (April 1).
