Ben Tucker turned in the best finishes of their collegiate careers on Sunday afternoon, as they helped lead the James Madison men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club.
The duo each shot rounds of even-par 72 on a difficult scoring day in Tallahassee, as Montero finished tied for second (-5) at the 75-player event, just three strokes behind the individual medalist in his first career top-five finish. Tucker finished just two strokes behind, tying for eighth (-3).
As a team, on a day when no team shot better than 2-under, the Dukes posted a 1-over 289 to maintain their hold on third at the 14-team tournament, just two strokes behind second-place Jacksonville.
Sophomore
Walker Cress posted the Dukes' best score of the day, firing a 1-under 71 that lifted him into a tie for 18th at even par for the three-day tournament. Senior
Matt Cowgill closed out the JMU scoring with a 2-over 74 that tied him for 32nd, while senior
Jack Floydd closed the weekend tied for 62nd after carding a 4-over 76 in the final round.
