HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis returned to the win column with a hard-fought 4-0 victory over Georgetown at the East Campus Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
The victory moved JMU above .500 for the spring with a record of 5-4, while the Hoyas fell to 2-5.
In doubles action, dominant victories from the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week, freshman
Amanda Nord and senior
Emma Petersen at No. 3 (6-1) and a 6-0 sweep from junior
Jona Roka and freshman
Daniela Voloh at No. 2 gave the Dukes the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
In singles, freshman
Daria Afanasyeva fought back from a service break to win the final three games of the second set to claim a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sofie Moenster at No.1 to increase the JMU lead to 2-0.
At No. 3, Voloh fought back after dropping the first set 3-6 to roll in the second and deciding sets 6-3, 6-3 to earn her fourth victory of the spring over fellow freshman Elena De Santis.
Senior
Abby Amos clinched match point at 4-0 as she battled past Sydney Goodson in three-sets. Amos and Goodson traded the opening two sets. In the third and deciding frame, with Goodson up 3-2 and serving, Amos broke back and won the final four games to claim the victory and the match for JMU.
With the match clinched, play was stopped at No. 4 and No.'s 5 and 6 never began.

Today's victory improved JMU's record to 6-0 at the East Campus Tennis Courts since their inception for the beginning of the 2018 dual season.

JMU will have over a week off, before taking to their home courts once again, next Sunday, March 3rd for an in-state clash with Liberty. The match is scheduled to take place at the Hillside Courts and first serve is set for 1 p.m.
