Asheville, N.C. – James Madison visited UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
The Dukes dropped to 2-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 2-1. JMU notched two doubles wins and one singles triumph in the loss.
After UNC Asheville opened the match with a 6-2 win at #1 doubles, the Dukes won the next two matched in tiebreak fashion to earn the doubles point and early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore
William Karpinski and senior
Josh Raymundo won their match on court three against Edward Colclough and Sirawit Daosaengsawang, 7-6 (6). Freshman
Holden Koons and senior
Paul Mendoza closed out doubles play with a 7-6 (7) win on court two against Leo Bierbaum and Harry Thursfield.
In singles play, Koons earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Daosaengsawang at the #3 spot, which gave JMU a 2-1 lead after UNCA took a win at #2 singles.
The Dukes had three singles matches go three sets and another go to a tiebreak in both sets, but the Bulldogs won the final four matches to claim the team victory.
Sophomores
Stefan Petrovic and
William Karpinski each won their first set before dropping three-set decisions, and senior
Damon Roberts forced a third set before falling in the third. Junior
Gonzalo Adis went to a tiebreak in both sets, falling 7-5 in the first-set tiebreak and 7-2 in the second.

The Dukes return home next weekend and host Youngstown State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the East Campus Tennis Courts. The match is slated to begin at 11 am.
