Dukes Battle, but Fall in Conference Semifinals

ELON, N.C. – The third-seeded James Madison women's soccer team fought hard until the end, but ultimately fell to two-seeded Hofstra, 1-0, in the conference semifinals on Thursday night at Rudd Field.

The Dukes finish their season 9-9-1 as the Pride are now 15-3-1.

Hofstra found what became the match winner in the 67th minute when Lucy Shepherd fired in a corner kick that curved its way into the back of the net.

Redshirt freshman Lexi Vanderlinden provided the lone shot for JMU in the contest, firing it in the 60th minute that came up saved. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Blom recorded six saves during the match, her eighth match of the season where she recorded at least six.

The Pride had a 19-1 advantage in shots during the match, but 11 of those shots were in the opening 21 minutes. The Dukes held them to six shots over the last 45 minutes of regulation, tied for the second lowest shot output in the second half on the season for Hofstra.
