QUICK HITS
- James Madison returns to Harrisonburg after a week in Florida for a three-game homestand, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup against crosstown foe Eastern Mennonite on Thursday, Dec. 2 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- The Dukes improved to 6-2 on the season and finished 2-2 in their Florida swing after a 69-65 win at Florida Atlantic on Sunday. JMU will play its first home game in 13 days, looking to build upon its 16-7 record on its home court since opening the new arena.
- The Dukes' strong November came from a balanced attack on offense, with nine different players averaging at least eight points, led by junior guard Vado Morse at 10.8 points per game and graduate transfer Charles Falden at 10.5.
- Falden also leads the Dukes with 16 threes made and a .444 three-point shooting percentage.
- Another pair of graduate students - Alonzo Sule and Takal Molson have led the way on the glass, grabbing 6.1 and 5.3 rebounds per game, respectively. Both players put up nine rebounds in a game during the Naples Invitational, with Sule doing so in the victory over Wright State and Molson grabbing nine boards the following day against Murray State.
- JMU's five Division I victories have been by a total of 15 points, winning by 5, 1, 3, 2, and 4 points, respectively. The Dukes have trailed at some point in the second half off all of these victories. Against Wright State on Nov. 23, JMU erased a 15-point first half deficit, its biggest come-from-behind victory since March 2, 2013 against William & Mary, when the Dukes trailed by 19.
SCOUTING THE ROYALS
- Eastern Mennonite is 2-3 on the season under third-year head coach Melvin Felix and face Shenandoah at home on Wednesday evening prior to taking on the Dukes at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
- The Royals are looking to enjoy a full schedule this season after playing only four games in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. EMU went 2-2 in those matchups last year.
- Graduate student Tim Jones leads EMU with 14.6 points per game, while shooting 36.8 percent from the field. Senior forward Mark Burkholder pulls down 7.6 rebounds per contest for the Royals, adding 9.6 points along the way.
SERIES HISTORY
- The two Harrisonburg universities have faced each other 13 times in men's basketball, with all but three contests coming prior to the Dukes' jump to Division I with the 1976-77 season.
- Prior to that movement, the Dukes had won eight of the 10 matchups, including all six on their home court.
- After their Dec. 9, 1974 matchup, the two teams did not meet for 41 years, until the series was restarted during the 2015-16 season. The schools have met three times since then, with the Dukes controlling victories in each contest.
