The James Madison Dukes will cap a three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon, when they welcome Elon to the Atlantic Union Bank Center for a 4 p.m. matchup to be broadcast on MASN.
This game is one of a pair of contests that has been moved twice - the series was originally scheduled for Jan. 16-17, but moved up a week to replace a postponed trip to UNCW, before the Elon series itself was postponed due to a CoVID-19 case in the Elon program.
The Dukes have improved to 9-5 (4-1 CAA) on the 2020-21 season after picking up a big 73-64 win over Drexel at home on Sunday afternoon, giving JMU six wins in its last seven contests.
Senior guard Matt Lewis is playing the best basketball of his career, leading the Dukes and the CAA in scoring through the opening 14 contests, racking up 4.7rpg and 3.9 apg along the way while shooting 41.3% from the three-point line.
The senior guard is averaging 20.9 points per contest, 16th-most in Division I, climbing to third place on JMU's all-time scoring list, while newcomer guard Vado Morse is adding 14.0 ppg.
Freshman Justin Amadi has put together an outstanding freshman campaign and enters Sunday averaging 8.6 points per contest on an impressive 69.4% (50-72) percentage from the floor, to go along with 5.1 rebounds per game.
The Dukes rank among the best in the nation at getting to the free throw line - KenPom currently ranks the Dukes 10th in the country in their ability to earn free throws.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX

Elon comes to Harrisonburg at 3-5 (0-4 CAA), having dropped five straight games spanning both sides of a January pause due to CoVID-19. In their first action since Jan. 3 this past weekend, the Phoenix lost bouts of 66-43 and 75-70 at Delaware.
Sophomore Hunter McIntosh leads the way for Elon on offense, racking up 18.0 points per contest and 18.3 per league matchup, while junior Jerald Gillens-Butler adds 15.7 points himself while pulling down 5.3 rebounds, second-most on the team to the 6.5 that sophomore Hunter Woods grabs.

SERIES HISTORY

Elon has racked up a five-game winning streak over the Dukes to tie the all-time series against James Madison at seven games apiece, though JMU stiill holds a 4-3 edge in games played in Harrisonburg.
The most recent meeting between the teams saw the Phoenix end JMU's 2019-20 season in the opening round of the 2020 CAA Tournament, which saw Elon lead for just the final three seconds, using a jumper from Marcus Sheffield II to end a 63-61 victory in Washington, D.C. Then-junior Matt Lewis racked up 17 points, three rebounds and three steals and is averaging 18.1ppg in seven games against Elon.
