RADFORD, Va. - JMU men's tennis was unable to add to their three-match winning streak, falling 7-0 at Radford on Wednesday afternoon at the Radford Tennis Complex.
Each team now sits at .500 on the season, with the Dukes falling to 4-4 and the Highlanders improving to 5-5.
Radford won the first two doubles matches, earning the doubles point. On court two, redshirt juniors
Alvaro Arce and
Gonzalo Adis won in a tiebreak against Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva, 7-6(6).
JMU looked to use that victory to carry momentum into singles, but Radford proved too strong. During singles play, the Dukes forced multiple three-set matches, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
Redshirt senior
Paul Mendoza, redshirt sophomore
William Karpinski and redshirt freshman
Holden Koons all came back after first-set losses to win their respective second sets but were unable to win the final set.
Freshman
Oscar Hernandez won his first set on court three, but he was unable put away Guilherme Severin, dropping a three-set decision.
QUOTING COACH STEVE SECORD
"I hate losing, but I think this match will help motivate us. We could have won every singles match except one and every doubles match. We didn't, but we know what things we need to do to get on the right side of the finish line. We have a great group of guys who have big hearts and will continue to fight and grow."
