ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. - Senior
Walker Cress battled his way into seventh on Tuesday, as the James Madison men's golf team took home third place at the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship, hosted at the par-72, 6,787-yard Cotton Dike Course at Dataw Island Club.

Cress tallied five birdies in his best round of the week, carding a final-round 70 (-2) to vault six spots on the 40-player leaderboard and finish tied for seventh at 215 (-1). The performance marked the eighth top-10 finish of his career.

As a team, the Dukes posted an even-par 288 to close out the event, moving back into sole possession of third place among the eight teams to wrap things up.

George Heath carded the Dukes' best round of the day, using four birdies to post a 69 (-3) on the final day, matching Cress' six-spot move to finish tied for 11th at 216 (E), while junior
Ignacio Montero finished just two shots behind Heath in a tie for 13th after a final-round 75 (+3).

Ignacio De Pineda and freshman
Neal Shipley closed out the JMU scoring with rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4), respectively. Shipley finished tied for 19th, while De Pineda was tied for 29th.

The performance closed out the Dukes' 2020-21 campaign and marked their second straight third-place finish at the CAA Championship.
