WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis dropped its conference opener to William & Mary, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.

The Tribe improved to 5-4 on the year while the Dukes fell to 6-2.

W&M opened the match taking all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead.

After a quick 6-2 win on court three by Daniel Pellerito and Finbar Talcott, the Tribe clinched the doubles point with a comeback win on court one. Down 4-3, George Davis and Harrison rallied for a 6-4 victory against
Holden Koons and
William Karpinski.

On court two,
Mathieu Josserand and
Edson Sanchez trailed 5-2 and held off six different match-point opportunities from Joseph Brailovsky and Chen Ruo to tie the match at 5-5. The Tribe duo eventually won the math 7-5 to round out doubles play.

In singles, William & Mary extended its lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory by Talcott over
Stefan Petrovic on court six. The Tribe made it a 3-0 advantage on court two, as Brown downed Karpinski, 6-4, 6-2.

William & Mary secured the team win on court four when Jack Kelly earned a 7-5, 6-2 triumph against Sanchez.

After another straight-set win on court five for the Tribe, JMU got on the scoreboard with a super-tiebreak victory on court one. Koons overcame a set deficit, coming back to defeat Davis, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (7).

W&M closed out the match with a win in a super, as Sebastian Quiros slid past
Youssef Sadek, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (4).
