HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison men's tennis celebrated Senior Day with a 5-2 home victory against Navy on Sunday afternoon at the the East Campus Tennis Courts.
The Dukes recognized their two seniors,
William Karpinski and
Stefan Petrovic, prior the opening serve of their penultimate home match, and the Dukes delivered by winning five of six singles matches to rally past Navy.
With the win, the Dukes improved to 12-4 on the year, while the Midshipmen fell to 18-8.
The match opened with the Mids winning two of three doubles matches to claim the early lead.
Karpinski and
Oscar Hernandez kicked things off with a court-three win, taking a 6-2 decision from Jan Kjellberg and Christian Pumpelly.
Navy answered, by taking the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court two and a 7-6 (2) tiebreak win on court one.
Karpinski continued his Senior Day dominance in singles, as he tied the match at 1-1 with his victory on court two. He earned his ninth dual win of the spring after cruising past Jack McBride, 6-1, 6-1.
After a Navy win on court three gave the visitors a 2-1 lead,
Holden Koons tied the match once again with a comeback win on court one. After dropping his first set, Koons bounced back with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory versus Finn Garner, squaring the match at two apiece. It was his ninth straight singles win, as he moved to 15-1 this spring.
The back half of the lineup wouldn't deny the seniors a victory, as courts four through six won in straight sets to close out the weekend.
The lead went in favor of JMU, at 3-2, when Hernandez dispatched Sam Vagner, 6-4, 6-1.
Much like Thursday's win,
Edson Sanchez won his match moments after Hernandez, as he clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 7-5 win over William Pak.
Mathieu Josserand added the final point to the Dukes' tally on, taking the match 6-2, 6-2 over Pumpelly.

The Dukes have an open week and return to action on Tuesday, April 5 when they host Elon for their final home match of the season. The opening serve from Hillside Courts is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
