MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – James Madison competed in its third women's tennis tournament of the fall on Oct. 6-8 at the annual Martha Thorn Invitational, winning 14 total matches in the event hosted by West Virginia University at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts and Summit Tennis Academy.

The Dukes posted a 7-5 record in doubles play, as Cate Broerman led the way with a 5-1 overall record, going 3-0 in doubles and 2-1 in singles. Alexandra Prudente also notched a 2-1 singles record.

JMU opened the week going 3-1 in doubles against Duquesne Friday, while Prudente and Sara Sadadinovic recorded singles victories against competitors from Penn State. Prudente downed Danielle Alamo, 6-1, 6-4, while Sadadinovic defeated Kate Zink, 7-5, 6-4. The wins were the first of Sadadinovic's career.

Saturday saw a 4-4 split in doubles play versus Maryland, Penn State, Louisville and Duquesne and singles victories by JMU's top three athletes over Duquesne foes. Broerman downed Daniela Latoni after conceding just one game, at 6-1, 6-0. Daria Munteanu overcame Jasa Roka, younger sister of former JMU standout Jona Roka, in a super tiebreaker, at 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (4). Moulin also won in straight sets against Mila Badics, at 6-2, 6-4.

In Sunday's finale, Broerman and Prudente recorded triumphs against players from Louisville. Broerman finished her strong weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Berta Miret, while Prudente handled Ibifuro Clement by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

UP NEXT
JMU is off next weekend before traveling to Lynchburg, Va., for the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship, which takes place Oct. 19-23 at Liberty.
