CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – James Madison faced stiff competition at the Wahoowa Invitational (Oct. 4-6), held at Boar's Head Resort, winning a total of nine matches, highlighted by three singles victories versus host Virginia.

The Dukes faced off competitors from Princeton, Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky and Virginia over the three days.
Sophie Williams continues to tear through singles play three tournaments into her JMU career, as she remained unbeaten with a 3-0 singles mark. She led the Dukes with four total wins this weekend.

Mia Saveljic also turned in a 2-1 singles record while
Daria Munteanu and
Corinna Rietmann each notched one singles triumph.

On the doubles side, the tandems of
Ines Oliveira and Williams and
Reka Matko and Saveljic garnered one doubles win each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday vs. Princeton and Ole Miss
- Play began with a 2-2 split in doubles play, as Oliveira and Williams cruised past Princeton's Eva Elbaz and Alice Ferlito, 6-2.
- Matko and Saveljic also took down Rachel Krzyzak and Andrea Nova of Ole Miss by a count of 6-4.
- On the singles side, Munteanu downed Nova in straight sets by scores of 6-2, 6-3. Williams fended off Princeton's Pearlie Zhang with a tiebreak win in the second to take the match, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Saturday vs. Auburn and Kentucky
- After dropping all four doubles matches, Saveljic and Williams each turned in straight-set singles wins.
- Saveljic bested Auburn's Alice Battesti in a tight match, winning the bout by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Williams defeated Kentucky's Ellie Eades at 6-4, 6-3.

Sunday vs. Virginia
- Virginia claimed all three doubles matches, but the Dukes turned in a 3-3 singles split with the host Cavaliers to round of the weekend.
- Saveljic held off Zara Larke in straight sets, winning her second singles match by scores of 6-4, 7-5.
- Williams moved to 9-0 this fall in singles play after dispatching Meggie Navarro, 6-3, 6-3.
- Rietmann earned her first win of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph against Nicole Kiefer to round out the wins for JMU.

UP NEXT
After three straight weekends in action, JMU has the week off before heading back to Charlottesville for the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship, which will be contested from Oct. 17-22.
