Divers Wrap Up Three-Day Stay at West Virginia Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The James Madison divers concluded the West Virginia Invitational on Friday where they competed for three days inside The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

The Dukes took home victories on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards by senior Alexa Holloway and sophomore Kate Vitolo, respectively. JMU also competed in platform diving for the first time in program history.

Day One

The first day involved competition on the 1-meter board, with Holloway recording the top score in the prelims (292.20) and being joined by Vitolo (245.95) in the A final. Juniors Natalie Jones (215.00) and Maddie O'Mera (213.90) both qualified for the B final.
Holloway and Vitolo went 1-2 in the A final, as Holloway recording a score of 284.15 to win the event. Vitolo followed her with a score of 252.85.
In the consolation final, Jones scored a 254.15 to claim second while O'Mera finished third with a score of 229.75.

Day Two

Four Dukes once again advanced to finals, this time on the 3-meter board, with three in the A final and one in the B final.
Holloway recorded the highest score in prelims again (267.75) and was joined in the A final by Vitolo (262.10) and Jones (248.60). O'Mera advanced to the consolation final with a score of 231.65.
Scoring her second 300 of the season, Vitolo won the 3-meter with a score of 300.35. Holloway placed fourth with a score of 267.70 and Jones finished eighth (230.20). O'Mera scored a 217.55 in the B final to finish fourth.

Day Three

Five divers participated on the platform, led by Holloway's 167.75 to place sixth. The four other divers followed Holloway en suite, going freshman Emma LaFountain (165.85), Jones (152.70), O'Mera (128.80) and freshman Juliet Wells (119.70) in order.
JMU also competed in an exhibition team event.

The divers will return to the pool in the new year as they JMU will host Villanova in a dual meet inside Savage Natatorium on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025. The diving portion will begin at 10 a.m. with the swimming portion to follow at noon.
