HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison turned in its most dominant showing of the spring Saturday, rolling to a 7-0 victory against Navy in non-conference men's tennis action at East Campus Tennis Courts.

The Dukes won their fourth straight dual match, evening their record to 5-5, while the Midshipmen fell to 15-6. It was also JMU's fourth consecutive victory in the series with Navy, dating back to 2019.

JMU won two doubles matches and claimed five of its six singles victories in straight sets.

Going 2-0 on the day were
Esteve Agusti,
Julian Lozano and
Edson Sanchez, while
Youssef Sadek,
Markus Giersiepen and
Mario Pena won in singles play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles Play
- JMU took the doubles advantage on court one, as Agusti and Lozano cruised to a 6-3 win versus Herrick Legaspi and Nathan Nguyen.
- The Dukes captured the doubles point with a back-and-forth bout on court three. Harrison Lee and Sanchez took a 3-0 lead before Braydon Buckingham and Eric Liu won four straight. JMU's tandem responded with three straight games to clinch doubles, at 6-4.
- Over on court two, JMU was nearing victory before it was abandoned due to the doubles clinch. The team of Giersipen and Sadek led Tommy Kim and Jake Young, 5-3, when the match was halted.

Singles Play
- JMU doubled its lead to 2-0 with a dominant victory on court one. Sadek conceded just two total games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Legaspi.
- The Dukes extended their lead to 3-0 on court two a short time later, as Lozano dispatched Nguyen by scores of 6-2, 6-2.
- JMU clinched the team win with a straight-set triumph on court three, where Agusti fended off Young, 6-4, 6-4.
- Sanchez made quick work of Zach Quattro on court five, taking a 6-0, 6-2 victory to move the lead to 5-0.
- Pena notched his first singles win of the spring, dominating start to finish in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Aaron Gu.
- The final match would conclude in a super tiebreaker, with Giersiepen topping Kim by a slim 10-7 margin. Giersiepen jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the breaker, before Kim drew within 8-7. Giersiepen won consecutive points to capture a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) win.
