WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – Junior
Václav Tichý earned a tie for third on Tuesday afternoon to lead James Madison men's golf to a tie for sixth at the JT Poston Intercollegiate, hosted at the par-70, 6,720-yard Waynesville Inn & Golf Club.
Tichý's finish came on the heels of his program-record 62 (-8) on Monday, which broke the record for total score in a round by two strokes and tied the record versus par. The junior from Prague, Czech Republic, also finished with a three-round score of 205 (-5) and carded rounds of 70-62-73.
JMU's placing of sixth in the 15-player field came with a team-score of 854 (+14). Lipscomb earned the team title with a final aggregate score of 829 (-11). On a day where rain drove scores up, the Bison put up a solid score of 286 (+6) to finish eight strokes ahead of Kennesaw State in second. Alejandro Rodriguez was the low scorer among individuals, firing an impressive 200 (-10) through his three rounds.
Senior
Daniel Cheng posted a 54-hole tally of 211 (+1), which earned him a tie for 14th. Cheng carded two rounds in the 60s – a 67 (-3) and 69 (-1) – before finishing with a third-round score of five-over 75.
Transfers
Alex Seibal (72-72-77) and
Tommy McKenzie (73-74-74) both tied for 55th with 54-hole scores of 221 (+11). McKenzie competed as an individual outside of the JMU lineup.
Owen Kose bounced back from a first-round 79 (+9) and posted rounds of 73 and 72 to close his tournament tied for 70th at 224 (+14) overall, while
Garrett Kuhla (227, +17) rounded out the Dukes' lineup with a tie for 79
th and carded rounds of 72-76-79.
