Late Homer Pushes Marshall Past Dukes

The Dukes fell to 7-15 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt Conference action, dropping their third game in a row. The Thundering Herd evened its league record to 2-2 and improved to 12-10 overall.

Freshman Reece Moody and junior Maddux Fleck each put in two-hit games at the plate, with both drawing a walk and knocking in a run while Moody also scored a run. Sophomore Jackson Logar tossed his second quality start of the season, going six innings with a strikeout while giving up one run (unearned), two walks and four hits.

How It Happened
Second Inning
Using an error, a walk and a single to load the bases, junior Jack Cannizzaro and sophomore Ike Schmidly hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to score the first two runs for JMU. After sophomore Kyle Langley stole second base, initially reaching on a single, Fleck knocked him in on a single of his home to make it 3-0.

Fifth Inning
Marshall got a run back, scoring on a double play after an error allowed the Herd to load the bases, making the score 3-1.

Seventh Inning
The Herd used a triple, a double and a single to score three runs and take a 4-3 lead.

Eighth Inning
After seniors Coleman Calabrese and Ryan Dooley led off the inning with a walk and a double, respectively, to put runners in scoring position, JMU used an infield single from Moody to tie the game at four. A double steal from Moody and Dooley gave JMU the lead at 5-4.

Murdoch responded for Marshall by sending an 0-2 pitch over the right-field wall for a two-run homer to regive the Herd the lead, this time 6-5.

Game Notes
- Jackson Logar did not give up an earned run for the second time this season.
- JMU is now 7-2 when scoring five or more runs.
- The Dukes stole five bases, the most in a game since Feb. 28.
