How It Happened
First Inning
JMU got on the board first, putting its first five batters on base. After loading the bases with no outs, junior
Wyatt Peifer laced a single into right field that would bring two home. Junior
Jack Cannizzaro's single would load the bases for the Dukes again, preceding a sacrifice fly from freshman
Jack Anderson to make it 3-0.
Â
Second Inning
Dooley made it a 4-0 lead for the Dukes with a single through the right side of the infield to score sophomore
Kyle Langley. Langley led off the inning with a single before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Â
Fourth Inning
The Dukes added two more in the fourth with some help from the Troy defense. Junior
Maddux Fleck and Langley both got on base to lead off the inning and attempted a double steal. Troy catcher Brooks Bryan threw down to third base, but it was left uncovered which allowed Fleck to score. A sacrifice fly from Dooley would drive in Langley to make it 6-0.
Â
Fifth Inning
Fleck drove in a run with bases loaded on a groundout to knock in a run and make it 7-0 for the Dukes.
Â
Eighth Inning
Troy scored a trio of runs to get on the board, making it 7-3.
