BOONE, N.C. – James Madison baseball was narrowly outlasted by App State, 4-2, on Friday night at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium in Sun Belt Conference action.
The Dukes dropped to 12-27 (5-12 SBC) while the Mountaineers improved to 21-17 (11-7 SBC).
At the plate, senior
Coleman Calabrese led the Dukes with a 2-for-3 day with a run scored. Junior
Max Kuhle made his first start of the season on the mound, going four innings and striking out three while allowing three runs and four hits.
How It Happened
First Inning
Sophomore
Kyle Langley led off the game with a single and scored from second on a groundout off the bat of freshman
Reece Moody to give a 1-0 lead to JMU.
App State tied the game in the bottom of the inning, putting runners on the corners that allowed Juan Correa to single a run in.
Third Inning
Back-to-back doubles with two outs added a run to App State's lead, making it 2-1.
Fourth Inning
A leadoff homer from Tyler Figueroa extended the Mountaineers' lead to 3-1.
Sixth Inning
Calabrese made in a one-run game as he scored on a passed ball. He led off with a single and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt and a flyout before touching home to make it 3-2.
The Mountaineers wasted little time to push their lead back to two, using a groundout to knock in a run and make the score 4-2.
