MADISON, Miss. – James Madison juniors Owen Kose and Václav Tichý each shot a four-under 68 on Wednesday, leading the Dukes to a fifth-place showing at the 2025 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship at the par-72, 7,157-yard Annandale Golf Club.
With the top four teams advancing to match play to decide the team championship, JMU finished four strokes behind No. 48 Troy in fifth out of 14 teams at 862 (-2). The Dukes shot 280 (-8) as a team on Wednesday - tied for their lowest single-round total this season.
For the eighth time in 2024-25, Tichý closed play as JMU's No. 1 finisher, tying for 18th on the 74-player leaderboard at even-par 216. He tallied scores of 71 (-1) and 77 (+5) in his first two rounds before closing strong with a 68 (-4) in Wednesday's final round.
Senior Tommy McKenzie was the third Duke to go low on Wednesday, recording a career-low single-round score (69, -3) and 54-hole tally (217, +1) to tie for 25th overall - the third top-25 finish of his career. The Calgary, Alberta, native posted two rounds of two-over 74 to open the tournament.
Senior Daniel Cheng ended his collegiate career with a tie for 31st, highlighted by a four-under 68 in the first round. Kose finished with a clean scorecard Wednesday, firing a season-low 68 (-4), which featured four birdies and zero bogeys. The native of Holly Springs, N.C., tied for 40th with a three-round total of 220 (+4) after posting rounds of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3) on Monday and Tuesday.
In his first appearance in the Sun Belt Championship, redshirt sophomore Garrett Kuhla tied for 50th, carding rounds of 73-72-77.
Troy joined Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, and Coastal Carolina as the four teams that advanced to Thursday's match play to decide the team title. Jack Maxey of A-State captured the individual title after defeating Eli Ortego (Louisiana) in a three-hole playoff.
