Six Selected to 2024-25 VaSID Academic All-State Team

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Six James Madison student-athletes have been selected to the 2024-25 Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State Team, which recognizes the top scholars from every collegiate institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Dukes recognized this year are lacrosse senior Savannah Derey, football redshirt senior Jacob Dobbs, women's basketball redshirt junior Peyton McDaniel, field hockey senior Cassidy Strittmatter, men's golf junior Václav Tichý and men's soccer redshirt senior Demitri Turner.

This is the second straight year that both McDaniel and Turner were honored on the Academic All-State Team.

All six student-athletes were finalists for the 2024-25 JMU Casey Carter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and were also members of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Team this year.

Dobbs and McDaniel became the department's 23rd and 24th all-time Academic All-Americans, while McDaniel, Tichý and Turner were voted JMU's Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

A total of 216 athletes across 36 schools in the state were recognized on this year's list.
