RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison won a string of four consecutive singles matches, including two in three sets, to rally past Richmond for a 4-2 men's tennis victory on Friday afternoon at the Westhampton Tennis Complex.

The Dukes (7-3) won their third straight this spring, and the victory against the Spiders (3-6) snapped a three-match skid, earning their first win over UR since 2022.

JMU trailed 2-0 in the match before it produced singles wins from
Zach Fleishman,
Ryan Morgan,
Gur Libal and
Francisco Sinopoli. The latter two wins occurred in three sets, which included a comeback win on Sinopoli's clinching court.

Richmond grabbed the early lead with the doubles point. The Spiders took 6-3 wins on courts one and three for the 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, UR grew its lead to 2-0 on court one, where Davis Wiley downed
Esteve Agusti in straight sets, at 6-2, 7-6 (3).

JMU got on the board shortly after on court five, as Fleishman, playing in front of a hometown audience, rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win against Cole Brashear. The Dukes tied the match at 2-2 on court three when Morgan held off Paxton Pritchard in the second set, winning by scores of 6-2, 7-5.

The final three courts would all go to decisive third sets, with JMU clinching the final two courts within 60 seconds of each other. Libal gave JMU the 3-2 lead on court six with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 triumph over Nathan Germino.

The clinching point occurred on court four, where Sinopoli rallied from a set down and fended off Otto Sewell, at 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The final bout, featuring JMU's
Aurelien Schmitt and UR's Charlie Burdell went unfinished on court two, with Burdell up 5-4 in the third frame.

JMU is back at the Westhampton Tennis Complex on Saturday, March 7 for a neutral-site bout against Furman. The match is set for an 11 a.m. start.
