Ginny Lackey Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

KANSAS CITY – James Madison women's soccer forward Ginny Lackey has been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, as announced by the IWSOC and United Soccer Coaches on Wednesday.
The Hermann Trophy is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor, recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by a vote of Division I head coaches.
Lackey, a finalist for the award in 2024, becomes the first JMU player to make the watchlist in back-to-back seasons, and remains the sixth student-athlete in program history to make the award's watchlist, joining Kim Germain (2008), Cate Tisinger (2008), Corky Julien (2009), Teresa Rynier (2010), and Alexandra Blom (2023).
Lackey started all 19 matches and led the Dukes in goals (11) and assists (6) for 28 total points as a sophomore. Her four game-winning goals were tied for first in the conference. Following up on a stellar freshman campaign in 2024, the Bolton, Manchester, England, native became the first Sun Belt player to record back-to-back 25-plus-point seasons since 2014-15.
To begin the season, the Bolton, Manchester, England native was named the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Additionally, she joined two other Dukes on the All-Sun Belt Preseason Team.
Lackey and Dukes open their season tonight against NC State at Sentara Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
