HARRISONBURG, Va. – A pair of first-half goals propelled the James Madison men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Longwood on Friday night at Sentara Park.

Midfielder Manuel Lolas and forward Carlos Camara Tur each found the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes to help the Dukes (2-4) earn their second straight home win and knock off the previously unbeaten Lancers (5-1).

JMU outshot Longwood, 9-7, in the win and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Erik Jaspers made a pair of saves, both coming in the second half to secure the clean sheet.

"We were happy to get a result tonight against an undefeated Longwood team. They led the country in goals scored, and we kept a shutout, which was excellent to see. Some guys stepped up tonight and helped us get a much-needed result prior to opening up conference play. It was a team effort and a complete game, so certainly hoping to build off this result."

How It Happened

The Dukes opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Lolas gave the home side a 1-0 lead. After a failed penalty shot, Lolas pounced on a rebounded ball in the middle of the box and cashed in for his third goal of the campaign.
In the 19th minute, JMU doubled its lead when Camara Tur knifed his way through Longwood defenders inside the 18, before finishing far post to make it 2-0.
Lolas was credited with an assist on the goal, his first of the season.
Longwood's first shot on goal came in the 54th minute on a long-distance effort, which was saved by Jaspers.
The Lancers' biggest threat of the night came in the 79th minute, when Jaspers needed to make a diving save to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

Game Notes

Friday marked the eighth matchup with Longwood in program history. With the win, JMU improved to 7-0-1 all time in the series, including 5-0 in Harrisonburg.
Lolas' goal marked just the second time the Dukes scored first in a match this season.
Lolas has now scored three of James Madison's five goals on the year.
Lolas became the first Duke to record a goal and an assist in a game since Evan Southern on Nov. 10, 2024, at UCF.
Camara Tur's goal was his first in 2026.
The shutout was JMU's second of the season, both of them coming at home.
Longwood entered the fixture as one of the top offensive teams in the nation, averaging 4.20 goals per game.
James Madison has now won back-to-back home games for the first time since Sept 21 & 24, 2024.
