HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's soccer needed only one goal Thursday night as a stellar defensive effort led the Dukes past ULM, 1-0, in Sun Belt Play at Sentara Park.

The Dukes (4-4-1, 2-0-0 SBC) held the Warhawks to three shots on the evening, recording JMU's second shutout of the season. Ginny
Lackey tallied the lone score for the Dukes, with assists from Aleigha Arndt and Selma Rajakangas.

Sofia DeCerb got the start in goal, making two saves in 90 minutes and recording her first shutout of the season.

ULM (3-7-1, 0-2-0 SBC) were paced by two shots from Victoria Vinals. Jen Handy played all 90 minutes at goalkeeper, making seven saves.

How it Happened

The JMU attack picked up steam in the sixth minute, taking its first two shots of the match.
A through pass from Aleigha Arndt followed by a strike off the left foot of Lackey put the Dukes ahead 1-0 in the 20th minute.
James Madison controlled possession in the first half, outshooting the Warhawks 6-2 and tallying four corner kicks to ULM's zero.
The Dukes defense was airtight in the second half, not allowing ULM to take its first shot until the 84th minute and keeping the Warhawks scoreless to grab their second win of Sun Belt play.

Match Notes

Lackey has scored at least five goals in all three of her collegiate seasons.
JMU is 2-0-1 when holding its opponents to five or fewer shots
Rajakangas's assist was her second of the season and the fifth of her career.
Decerb's shutout was the 11th solo clean sheet of her career.
