As a junior: CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award... Fall JMU Dean’s List... played in 11 matches for the Dukes... only shot of the season for the midfielder came in the CAA semifinals against Hofstra.
High school: Associated Press and Newark Star-Ledger all-state as a senior. Newark Star-Ledger fall sports Player of the Year as a senior. Team captain as a junior (co-captain) and senior. All-division first team and All-Monmouth County first team as a junior and senior. Team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior. As a senior set school season assist record with 15. Finished her career ranked second on the school’s career points list (65). Red Bank Catholic compiled an overall record of 64-12-4 record in her four seasons as a starter. The Caseys were group III state semifinalists 2000, 2001 and 2002, sectional champions 2002, 2003 and sectional finalists 2001 and group II champions 2002. Participated in the U.S Field Hockey Association's National Futures program. Competed in National Hockey Festival 2002 and 2003, and her team was won gold medals both years. Also competed in the 2002 national indoor tournament. Also played varsity lacrosse two years (2001, 2002) and varsity golf two years (2003, 2004) and was an individual state golf finalist both seasons. Honor Roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.

Why did you choose JMU?
I chose JMU for its business program, the field hockey program, and the team atmosphere.
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I chose a finance major because I am very interested in getting involved with this part of the business world.
What do you enjoy most about JMU field hockey?
The team; most of these girls are like sisters.
What are your goals for this year?
Athletically, I want our team to qualify for both the NCAA and CAA tournaments and academically, I want to maintain a GPA above 3.3 and to attain a successful job for next year.
What is your favorite pre-game music or ritual?
Listening to my preferred play list.
Who is the silliest/goofiest person on the team?
Melissa Ann Stefaniak.
Who motivates you and why?
My parents both inspire me day in and day out. They are my sole support and motivation in life.
What are your favorite things about JMU?
My teammates and the social atmosphere.
What is your favorite place at JMU?
Little Grille, Qdoba, and Panera.
What influenced you to play field hockey?
Personal intuition to play the sport.
Do you have a nickname within the team?
They all call me Mal.
Which is your favorite team to play against?
Any of the Virginia schools.
What can't you live without?
My family.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I'm not a natural blonde.
What other hobbies and/or activities do you enjoy?
Anything athletic, especially golf.
