Christian Carter joined JMU Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports in 2013. He is in charge of designing and implementing programs for women's track and field, volleyball and men’s soccer. Christian is also responsible for the development and implementation of the intern program and for overseeing the daily operations in the Bridgeforth Stadium, Convocation Center, and Memorial Hall Weight Rooms.
Carter is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He has earned the National Coach Certification from USA Weightlifting. His previous strength and conditioning experience comes from doing internships at Wisconsin and Arizona State in addition to serving as a graduate assistant strength & conditioning coach at Virginia Tech and completing his doctoral work at East Tennessee State to go along with additional experience in the private sector.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology concentrating in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin, his Master's in Health Promotion and Sport Performance from Virginia Tech and his Doctorate in Sport Performance from East Tennessee State University, where he also served as an assistant weightlifting coach at the designated US Olympic Training Site in Johnson City, Tenn.
Dr. Carter is originally from Oak Park, Ill. and currently resides in Harrisonburg with his dog, Thatcher.
