Jackie Leonard started at JMU in 2006 and now serves as an Associate Director of Sports Medicine and works directly with the cross country team. In her years at JMU, she has also provided care for field hockey, women’s lacrosse, track and field, and tennis. Her primary responsibilities include overseeing the health and well-being of the student-athletes she serves, as well as serving the Sports Medicine Department in a leadership role.
After graduating from the University of North Carolina in 2000, Jackie went on to earn a master’s degree in Sports Healthcare from the Arizona School of Health Sciences (now A.T. Still University) in 2002. Her master’s research was presented at the NATA Annual Meeting in 2002 and published in the Journal of Athletic Training in 2005. She spent four years at Texas–Pan American before coming to JMU.
Jackie is a certified athletic trainer, licensed athletic trainer in Virginia, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and is trained in Dry Needling as well as Graston Technique. She lives in Harrisonburg with her husband, Jon, their two daughters, and furbaby, Finn.
